Katoomba Garden Group Update:
In collaboration with council, the group has begun work on street bed planting as well as the barrels.
The next working bee of the garden volunteers will be on Sunday 16 October, 7.30-9.30am in Katoomba Street. KCCC members are all welcome.
We will be planting out, weeding and watering. We will also be auditing the barrels with the intention of rejuvenation and moving them into sets of two beside street beds to make more of an impact.
There has be some success in apprehending vandals and plant thieves. We continue to take this seriously and have asked for assistance from the council rangers and police.
Volunteers to help with the regular watering are also very welcome. Please contact Marg Brown on 0400 118 481 or 4782 2882.

Slow Food News:
Look out for the special feature in the Blue Mountains Gazette on Thurs 2nd November 2016!
Slow Food Blue Mountains is celebrating 10 years in our community with a revamped, special feature entitled SLOW NEWS
This will be a pull-out to keep and it will be brimming with details of all the SFBM major initiatives - some of which include:
Summer Harvest Festival - aimed at re-skilling our community in the ‘sacred art’ of cooking through small group cooking-related workshops/events
Wines of the West Festival - promoting small regional winemakers
A Kitchen Garden in Every Home - discount vegie seedling offer in partnership with Oasis Horticulture
Change the Menu – Change the World - restaurant/café/ food business ‘accreditation’ demonstrating distinct point of difference and commitment to Slow Food principles
Great Chestnut Expedition - during chestnut season in March, and later selling value-added chestnut produce at Leura Harvest Festival - celebrating sustainability & seasonality around local food.
Slow Fashion Guide - featuring a number of small clothing-related businesses in the Blue Mountains (currently available in selected local stores)
Throughout this year SFBM have also been fundraising to award Small Producer Grants (the first of these being awarded early in the New Year) by conducting Pianola Soirees with Potluck Suppers by the specially-created Blue Mountains Pianola Revival Society.
... AND more recently, the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide (published in October) contained a strong representation of Blue Mountains Restaurants – 20 in all. This was ensured through the hard work of Plate-up Blue Mountains and assisted by Slow Food Blue Mountains.
